I took a break and went to the Blue Mountains for a week. What a beautiful place, the waterfalls, the lookouts, the valleys, wildlife and the mountains were a treat for eyes that normally see flat dry land.

Blackheath is
where Evans Lookout and Govett's Leap are and numerous other walking
trails. You can't see much on a misty day but it is worth waiting for
when it clears. I found out after all this time that a "leap" is a Scottish word
for waterfall!
Lithgow is a lovely town, it has the ZigZag Railway and not too far out
is Lake
Lyell where you can do some trout fishing. Medlow Bath has the
beautiful Hydro
Majestic Hotel from which you can view the Megalong
Valley the drive is pretty and very interesting.
Katoomba is the most visited of the mountain towns. The Three Sisters or in my case the Three Killers have to be visited but a gentle warning, if you aren't used to steps or mountains in general it is tough going climbing back up.

The name derives from the bluish tinge the range takes on when viewed at a distance, which is caused by the release of volatile oils from eucalyptus forests. (Most mountains and plains in the forested parts of Australia take on a similar hue: the Blue Mountains were a familiar sight to early British settlers in the Sydney district long before the bulk of the continent was explored by non-native people.).Send this photo as a postcard
