We arrived in France from Dover in the well equipped ferry. Seeing the
White Cliffs of Dover was an experience in itself! The trip was smooth
sailing and surprisingly we met up with a friend who used to live in our
small town. We had a coach waiting for us to take us to Paris. What a
glorious city which is aptly named the City of Love.
Entertainment on our first night was a slightly raunchy caberet with beautiful topless girls who could offend no one! We had one hitch getting there though as the streets are narrow and we were held up by the garbage men clearing the streets, but alls well that ends well and we weren't late. We didn't make it to the Moulin Rouge but this was a great compromise with more chance of getting tickets.
Next day we made our way to Montmarte to see the artists in action and enjoy the incredible views. As we wandered around it became more and more apparent what a truly beautiful city this was.
Our next venture was the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower. Both were up to my expectation of what I thought I would experience. I don't think it would be possible to be disappointed about anything in Paris it is such a grand place to be. The only problem I found is trying to see everything which was an impossibility. The bridges and the river were my favourite places to be, the Seine has a charm of it's own.
Notre Dame is such an imposing building and a guide told us and whether it is true or not I can't say, but apparently one of the gargoyles had to be replaced and the tradesman modelled it after his mother in law, wouldn't he be popular after that!
I missed out seeing Versailles much to my disappointment but I am hoping to see Paris again when I go to England for the next cricket ashes tour, so maybe I can catch up on those things I really want to visit. I try not to back track on countries but who would not want to go back to Paris.
