Frankfurt was our arrival city, and despite some negative reviews that we had read, we were pleasantly surprised. Find the best deal, compare prices and read what other travelers have to say about hotels in Germany

"The old city centre with its magnificent half-timbered buildings was rebuilt in 1986 based on historical plans. Frankfurt's first bank was established in the 17th century in a building on the corner of Römerberg square, known as the "Grosser Engel“ (Great Angel). Three former patrician town houses dating back to the 14th century form the striking Gothic triple-gabled facade of the Römer town hall - Frankfurt's famous landmark. The historical town hall is still the Frankfurt mayoral residence." - website

We wandered into the square and ordered the biggest slice of apple strudel I have ever seen. Our first but not our last on German soil! We were well entertained but spoke no german which didn't inhibit us too much.

A cruise up the Rhine was very picturesque although the day was a bit wet. Germany for the most part was very beautiful, we travelled for three weeks and saw complete diversity from the west to the east, parts of the wall was still standing.Berlin was growing at a rate of knots with cranes everywhere on the horizon.

Parts of East germany still had the old concrete roads and remnants of the war were evident. We travelled the "romantic road" thru the alps where the scenery is spectacular against the backdrop of mountains.

The Passion TownHamlyn was straight out of the fairy tale,The Pied Piper and Heidelberg which is mainly featured here was one of the prettiest towns. The Passion Town with it's beautiful murals also left an impression. Rothenburg medieval town with it's cobblestones and fabulous buildings was worth a much longer stay.

A trip to Dachou also left it's mark on the other end of the spectrum but we had an unforgettable journey and when we caught the train back to Munich for a weeks "rest" after travelling for three, we were amidst many helpful people even though we could only say a couple of words in Deutsche. How I envy those who made it to the World Cup 2006.

The October Fest was on in Munich and what a wonderful spectacle that is, if you get out of there without a hangover you have done extremeley well! Travel in Germany

Although it can be crowded around this time it really shouldn't be missed. The variety of foods and beer and the atmosphere is brilliant. Coming from the small rural town that I do, this was something I am so glad I got caught up in.

"Germany is famous for beer, bratwurst and Oktoberfest, but of course it has more to offer than that. You will find stunning landscapes of forests, valleys, vineyards and stunning mountains, rivers and lakes. From hidden villages and small country towns to world famous cities with a rich historical backround, there is so much to see and do. Each region has its own speciallty. Some are known for their culture and traditions in clothes, dances or handicrafts, some for theirBerlin food, others for their fairy tale castles or for their amazing flora & fauna. Everywhere you go you will find something unique and exciting".-Janine Jager

A word on Berlin - Rents are low, nightlife hums, and concerts, lectures, films and private showings beckon on every evening. People brooding over their latest ideas and projects can be spotted everywhere, from cafés to parks to the U-Bahn.
