I couldn't count the times we got lost in Rome but always seemed to extract ourselves from trouble with a lot of laughs. Our main solution was to sit and have a coffee/shandy or gelato until we worked it out. We visited the Coliseum , Vatican, the Fontana di Trevi , The Pantheon and caught the local buses which was a laugh for everyone concerned even the Nun's on the bus as we tried to make ourselves understood. We really covered as much of Rome as we possibly could and loved it! We had a couple of days before we went to the other places then a week to finish off our trip. During that time we got a bus from our hotel to the train station caught the train and then on to another very overcrowded bus to Tripoli where they had a pageant that day. we also saw Verona of Romeo and Juliet fame. The statue of Juliet was rubbed for good luck and it was her breasts that were the most shiny! Find the best deal, compare prices and read what other travelers have to say about Italy

A short stop in Pisa to see the Leaning Tower on our way to Florence. Usually the buildings are straight and we are on a lean! We started sightseeing in Florence early to miss the crowds and heat and it was worth it. Florence is an incredible city with it's statues and wonderful history.Find the best deal, compare prices and read what other travelers have to say about hotels in Tuscany

Guarding the Vatican Venice was probably my favourite city mainly because it is just so beautiful, although the aroma from the canals can be a little powerful at times! But even that couldn't take away my excitement of just being there. A short boat ride away is the fishing island of Burano where exquisite lace making takes place by the locals.

A day trip to the pretty island of Burano was a day well spent. Local lace makers showed their wares off with pride and the colourful village was full of atmosphere with it's markets.

Capri was one of the prettiest isles I've been to, we stayed about 5 days here and explored the entire island, we had an incredibly good time, including dining and wining. We were supposed to go there
via Sorrento but was changed to Naples when it was reported to have rough seas. The crossing was still hot and rough but we survived to travel on the ferry again to go to Pompeii.

To see Pompeii was something I had always dreamed of as I had read so much about it and I wasn't disappointed, mainly because we hired a guide to show us around and avoided queues. So instead of surmising which places were which we got firsthand knowledge so it was a well worth investment. One of the photos show a mummified body which is kept in a special area.

Footnote* The food was wonderful in all areas with 3 course meals in small portions. They have the right idea!
