Idyllic
Malaysia

It took 51/2 hours to Kuala Lumpur from Perth. We arrived about 9:PM. After a bit of running around in the huge airport we found we had to take the train to pick up our luggage. We had arranged an independent holiday with transfers and we were met at the airport and taken to the Fairlane Hotel which was very central to food, shopping etc. Kuala Lumpur is certainly the garden city, with character. This was to be the holiday of massage and reflexology so the first thing we did was to find a Chinese Reflexologist which wasn't hard.
We made our way to Malacca via train, which was our choice because we wanted to see a little more of the interior. We got off at Tampin where we were met and driven to Malacca. Our hotel was the Hotel Puri, situated in the most historic street. We were very well looked after there. By far the best way to get around Malacca is by Trishaw. The Trishaw drivers are wonders at history and speak several languages. They are also immensely proud of their heritage. The Hotel Puri has a recommended Massuer and we made full use of his aromatherapy massages.Malacca was a very fascinating place to be. It is a recommended must see for any Malaysian trip.
The Cameron Highlands are beautiful and cool. We were driven there by
Mercedes Benz and stayed at the Strawberry Park Resort. A lovely couple
took us under their wing and drove us around to see the tea plantations,
the strawberry farm with its lucious jams and big strawberries and the
local markets.
We played some golf at the Cameron Highlands Golf Club and after a nervous
start didn't do too bad considering it has been a long time between hits.
To complete our trip we were driven to Penang down the winding mountain
road again which can leave you with some motion sickness. Penang was pretty
much as expected, and island with beach resorts. A pleasant afternoon
was filled in by hiring a fishing boat and spending the time fishing.
It was just the two of us and the skipper, who was very humerous and gave
us an extra hour and a half for free. There are numerous eating places
and night markets on the main strip and Georgetown has everything to offer
if you get sick of hanging around the beach.
We opted for massage and reflexology again each day and took a trip to
the flea markets and the Campbell Street Markets along with a tour around
Little India and Chinatown. Again the trishaw was a great option to have
a look around.
If you are thinking of taking a visit to Malaysia, you are assured of
a good time. It is a beautiful, friendly country and everyone is willing
to help you as much as possible. I hope any one who travels there will
have as lasting an impression as we have.
