Jazz it up in New Orleans

Heavy rain greeted me in New Orleans but didn't dampen my enthusiasm, it was very exciting to finally be there. I was picked up from the airport which was very nice and given a bit of a run down on the the most popular things to do. One of them was to go to the Cafe Du Monde, Cafe du Monde offers the original beignet, the state doughnut of Louisiana and not to be missed.

Bourban Street was two streets from my hotel as was most of the attractions in the French Quarter. I had a buffet lunch that included a jazz band and 70 types of dishes. Lunch took a long time that day!

Through the bayous and on to plantations by the Missisippi the following day. The Oak Valley plantation mansion is open to the public and is about 60 miles round trip from New Orleans. I also saw the house where the "Skeleton Key" was fillmed.

BalconiesAs the weather wasn't the greatest I didn't go on the paddle steamers but sorry I couldn't, they look very majestic.

The food was what is was expected to be and one of my favourites was steak with cawfish sauce, tastes much better than it sounds! I tried quite a few restaurants but there was one I went back to a couple of times because not only the food was excellent so was the service.

I did take one of my days off and vege out for a while after all my travelling, something I don't usually do but in the afternoon went walking around the shops. New Orleans really is a beautiful city even after taking such a battering during Katrina. So another dream was realised and to complete it I still had San Francisco to go.

A very good website on New Orleans

On with the trip
