NEW YORK, NEW YORK!
After Canada I flew to New York, and what
an experience it was. I was
able to catch up
with my cousins on the first day and we all caught
the
Hop on Hop off bus around New York. So I guess
they saw it through tourist
eyes as well. After one
too many Margaruitas (Only in my case!), we went
to
Central Park as it was very hot that day. What an
Oasis in the middle
of the city. I had a wonderful
first day topped off with a magnificent
meal
at an Italian Restaurant whose name escapes me.
After I said goodbye to my family, I settled into
New York sightseeing
and went to a Broadway show,
Hair Spray which was hilarious and so much
better than the movie, just around the corner from where I was staying
at the Manhattan Club Suites. A boutique Hotel central to everything.
New York is so well laid out not even I got lost once.
From Ground Zero to the Empire State building and everything in between I used the Hop on Hop off bus for which I had a two day pass. I was also told that Macy's give international passport holders 50% off but I didn't have time for shopping so can't verify it. I went to Harlem, The Bronx, Queens and of course around Manhattan.
Having pre booked a helicopter flight, I took it although I was doing
it with trepidation but it was a great experience and won't hesitate
to do more in my travels. I got up close to the Staue of Liberty which
is really quite beautiful, saw Ellis Island from both the helicopter
and ferry rides but didn't explore it.
Times Square wasn't quite what I expected it to be but wasn't disappointed. The Novatel Hotel has a sky bar which became a favourite in 52nd St just 5 minutes away from Broadway and 10 from my hotel.
I have to admit I was ready for a rest day at the close of my time in
New York but I had yet another trip to the airport and security checks
to go through before I got to New Orleans.
On with the trip
