Stunning San Francisco
The flight to San Francisco was delayed in Houston after a mad dash to make the connecting flight, the joys of travelling!
But was it worth the hassles, yes! Such a beautiful friendly city that despite a mild earthquake I was sad to leave in a way. I was just getting to know the people in the neighborhood and chat to them each day, when it was time to go.
I started my time there with a city tour to get orientated. It was one of the better city tours I have done, it covered just about everything. So when it came to choosing where to go I had a much better idea of where things were.
Fishermans wharf is a bustling area with a lot of things going on. On Pier 39 the seals have taken up residence. I tried the clam chowder soup bread bowl at the Boudin bakery opposite which was delicious. From there I boarded the ferry which took you under the Golden gate bridge and around Alcatraz. The bridge lives up to it's fame, it really is beautiful, my first view of it was turning a bend and seeing it towering through the fog that comes in each day. It was really quite breathtaking.
I
went to Monteray,
wandered around Cannery Row and
Sausalito (Spelling them from memory so hope it's right) Two lovely towns
with a scenic drive in between. The Californian coast drive is especially
scenic.
Chinatown and little Italy have some wonderful restaurants with a huge choice. I tried to get to see the popular show the "The Jersy Boys" but was unable to get there. I must have walked miles up and down the hills but it was worth every step. I have to say I was pretty knackered by the time I had to go home and probably only saw a fraction of what I would have liked to but was so glad to be able to see what I did, it was an experience I wouldn't have wanted to miss.
Despite the fact I went alone, I made quite a few friends along the way, including guests in the hotel where I was staying, and that is one of the joys of traveling and what keeps you doing it despite the airports and security checks! So I am now in the process of planning my next trip. Cheers!
