Plaza De Mayor- Spain Gallery. This photo is copyright, please respect it.Madrid was our first port of call and all went smoothly despite big warnings of malicious attacks from men on motorbikes who drove on the pavement to snatch your bag. They were good warnings to heed though because although nothing happened to us, a couple of ladies from the hotel were hurt and robbed. Thankfully we came through our holiday unscathed and had a wonderful time. We travelled to Seville, Alicante, Grenada and of course Madrid.

Whilst in Madrid we decided to see for ourselves what a bullfight was like. We are against any cruelty to animals but the amazing thing was just how easy it was to get caught up in the excitement. I was ole'ing with the best of them. It wasn't until later the reality of what had happened inside the ring really hit me.

Madrid is a beautiful city and the Plaza e Mayor is a pleasure to go to. It has al fresco cafes where you can sit in the warm and enjoy an extended lunch, or go for dinner. The Spanish eat very late and we usually had dinner around 10pm. I guess this is due to the long siesta time.

Seville was my favourite city, although some of the little streets were easy to get lost in. We frequented plenty of tavernas to have tappas and they are a delight to go to. It seems if you want to know where retired bullfighters go, then you only have to go to a taverna which is more than likely owned by one. Very interesting places with their photos on the wall and meat such as ham hanging up and a whole myriad of food, especially olives and of course the wine.

A ride in a horse drawn carriage through the park at night was like a fairyland and won't be forgotten in a hurry.

Alicante seemed to be the millionaires paradise, with the yachts and boats that were in the harbour. I really don't know how we found our way back to the hotel one night when we decided to go to the harbour. As usual things don't get revved up until late in the evening and one drink led to another before we bobbed and weaved back home.

The heads weren't so great in the morning.

Alhambra. This is a copyright photo please respect it.The Alhambra in Grenada is the most famous landmark and very beautiful architecture. The Alhambra was an "alcazaba" (fortress), an "alcázar" (palace) and a small "medina" (city), all in one. Grenada is full of Moorish buildings and monuments and they do say if there is one place in Spain to go to, it's Granada.

After our touring we went back to Madrid to do a bit more exploring and to fly home. Our last night was spent at the Plaza De Mayor for dinner and it was with a tinge of sadness to say Adios Espana.
